The Warning
"The Warning" was done during one of the endless conversations our country has had about global warming and climate change. The giant hands either represent a literal "stop sign" ( or perhaps our ability to hold our hands in front of our faces and pretend not to see what is happening to the environment!)
They are carved out of basswood from nearby trees that have been cut down for new “developments”.
Earlier Work
I find the old stories beguiling, especially those ancient myths that are so much a part of our collective unconscious.
Herodotus (everybody’s first history teacher) saw little difference between history and myth.
And as I watch our own recent history I understand why.
Human behaviors haven’t changed much since Ovid wrote his Metamorphoses.
The human fascination with transformation (now called “Makeovers”) continues unabated.
